Preliminary design of the COMPASS upgrade tokamak
نویسندگان
چکیده
COMPASS Upgrade is a new medium size, high magnetic field tokamak (R = 0.9 m, Bt 5 T, Ip 2 MA) currently under design in the Czech Republic. It will provide unique capabilities for addressing some of key challenges plasma exhaust physics, advanced confinement modes and configurations as well testing facing materials liquid metal divertor concepts. This paper contains an overview preliminary engineering main systems (vacuum vessel, central solenoid poloidal coils, toroidal support structure, cryostat, cryogenic system, power supply system machine monitoring protection system). The description foreseen auxiliary heating diagnostics also provided summary expected performance available configurations.

First Spectroscopic Measurements on the COMPASS Tokamak
Spectroscopic measurements were performed on the re-installed COMPASS tokamak during the first experiments. The impurity survey spectrometer HR 2000+ was used for registration of the most intense spectral lines in the 457–663nm visible range integrated over the discharge duration. The temporal evolution of integral visible light, Hα and hard X-rays intensities are measured by a photomultipliers...

Optimization of Magnetic Perturbation Spectra for the COMPASS Tokamak
The COMPASS tokamak, recently transferred from UKAEA Culham to IPP Prague, is equipped with a set of saddle coils for producing controlled resonant magnetic perturbations (RMPs). In the future experimental programme of COMPASS we plan to focus on studies of RMPs, especially in view of their application as an ELM control mechanism and their planned use in ITER. In the present contribution we des...
متن کاملNew High Resolution Thomson Scattering System for the COMPASS Tokamak
The COMPASS tokamak is being re-installed at IPP Prague after its transfer from Culham, U.K. Within the innovation, new diagnostics will be constructed, including a High Resolution Thomson Scattering System measuring electron temperature (Te) and electron density (ne) profiles. Scientific programme of the COMPASS tokamak is focused on the pedestal studies, thus the main stress will be laid on t...
متن کاملDust Observation in the COMPASS Tokamak Using Fast Camera
The dust grains were observed over a thousand discharges in the tokamak COMPASS. A novel method for semi-automatic extraction and tracking of dust grains using a relatively low frame-rate camera (370 fps) was proposed. Radiation lifetime, time evolution and the acceleration of the dust grains were studied. The measured dust velocities roughly correspond to a simple model. However, slow dust par...
